THE  MISSION 

    If you think it's EXTREMELY foolhardy for the United States to send $600 Billion dollars a year overseas to import Petroleum then you already believe in  Freedom Formula's mission and purpose. 

    70% of the Petroleum used in America goes to Transportation.  So we can't escape our Dependence on Foreign Oil unless we power our VEHICLES with something else.  Don't get distracted America! We DO NOT need 1001 new ways to make a lightbulb glow unless our CARS, TRUCKS, and BUSES also run on electricity; but currently less than 1% do. 

      The biggest hurdle for converting transportation to other fuels is America's 240 Million existing gasoline or diesel powered vehicles.  Electric Vehicle technology is an expensive way to convert existing vehicles, but converting them to run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is entirely practical and in mass production would cost only a few $Thousand.  8 Million CNG vehicles are already on the road in other countries, so the technology is proven; PLUS CNG is Domestic, Abundant, Affordable and Clean.  This is a No-Brainer! 

        Iran is subsidizing CNG conversions on a massive scale so the cost to vehicle owners is only $50.  They plan to cut gasoline imports by 80% within the next FOUR YEARS, so they will no longer be vulnerable to economic sanctions (they have crude oil, but no refineries).  They just signed an 8 year deal with China for a gasoline refinery; so why can't they wait eight years?  Is it just a coincidence that they will also be a Nuclear Power in FOUR YEARS? 

WHAT COULD THEY BE UP TO !!! 

What Can the Obama Administration Do?  

     1. Enact a tariff on Petroleum imported from OPEC. We make it WAY TOO EASY for OPEC to kill Alternative Energy in the U.S. whenever it gets started.  So the import price MUST be held above $80/barrel.   

( What's That, "We shouldn't inhibit Free Trade"? . . You must be JOKING! OPEC is a price-fixing Cartel!!  Some form of Economic retaliation is WAY overdue! ).   

      2. Establish consumer tax credits (e.g. $3000) for CNG conversion kits to switch existing gasoline vehicles to run on CNG.   

      3. Make the EPA responsible not only for approval of new CNG conversion kits, but to actually conduct the testing, possibly at contracted facilities.  This would streamline the certification process and make it FREE to kit developers and would result in dozens of LEGAL conversion kits, which would spawn a multi-BILLION DOLLAR industry virtually overnight. How Simple is That?  

      4. Establish a $10,000 consumer tax credit for the first 100,000 new plug-in hybrids with at least a 40 mile range (called a "PHEV-40"). This expenditure of $1 billion is equivalent to 36 HOURS of Iraq war funding and could ELIMINATE the need for such wars in the future!   

      5. Establish procurement rules to make Federal, State and local governments the early adopters of either CNG powered or plug-in hybrid fleets.   

      6. Reinstate the 1990s CAFE mileage standards, to include SUVs and light trucks; and allow use of either city or highway EPA ratings (hybrids have very good city mileage). Also count CNG vehicles at 50% (since their fuel is not imported).   

      7. Immediately start installing CNG refueling pumps at Interstate Service Areas and State Turnpikes as a condition of the Service Area Operating contracts.  

      8. Require all auto makers to offer U.S. consumers at least one additonal CNG model per year that they currently offer overseas. This and many other conditions MUST be tied to any bailout money the American People pay them.  

      Every day we are "VOTING WITH OUR DOLLARS" at the gas pump for Western Civilization's successor culture. With almost no competition, we've been voting for:

Fuels Used for U.S. Electric Power Generation

Hey - Where are the Batteries ?

       The principal technology now available to "Drive Electric" is the Plug-in Rechargeable Hybrid Electric Vehicle (or PHEV).  The PHEV runs on stored electrical charge until its batteries are nearly exhausted, then it augments the battery power with fuel power.  We favor the Series Hybrid which relies solely on electric motors to drive the wheels, and uses a fuel burning engine only to charge batteries.  The Series Hybrid only uses fuel power if the distance to be driven exceeds the battery storage capacity.  But, if such a vehicle is always operated within its electric range, it doesn't use ANY GAS AT ALL.  WOW, that's not just ALTERNATIVE FUEL, that's an ALTERNATIVE TO FUEL !!!  

So, we should think of CNG as a short term solution and Electric drivetrains as the long-term solution (even Hydrogen fuel cell cars use Electric drivetrains).  Electric drivetrains are 3 to 4 times more efficient than either CNG or Gasoline Internal Combustion Engines, so the long-term solution has to be Plug-in Rechargeable Hybrid-Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) and EVs.   Both EVs and PHEVs charge their batteries with electric power from a standard wall outlet, but a PHEV is much cheaper because it doesn't provide as much battery capacity.  Instead it carries an auxilliary fuel burning engine/generator to extend the operating range if needed (see Drivetrain Comparison article -- What Flavor Hybrid Is Best ).   Of course, the backup generators could run on CNG as well as liquid fuels, so the work done for the Short Term Plan would not be wasted effort. CNG NOW! EVs Later!

       We intend to establish the superiority of electric powered vehicles, not only from a foreign oil dependency standpoint but also in terms of reliability, performance, and cost of operation; and of course the air pollution impact is obvious, with some studies show a potential 95% reduction in environmental impact for electric powered automobiles.  Once convinced of this superiority, we then need to overcome 100-year love affair that Americans have with Varoooom-Varoooom! 

GUILT-FREE PLEDGE:

Freedom Formula will never criticize average consumers for not owning an electric or CNG vehicle; DETROIT DOESN'T SELL THEM.  Detroit MUST make these alternatives available before the U.S. becomes a 3rd world Economic Backwater.  Electric and CNG vehicles have been achievable for decades?
